Range Safety Course

ll Members using the rifle and pistol ranges are REQUIRED to take the Rifle and Pistol Ranges Safety Course as outlined in the Rochester Brooks Range Policy. Please contact the club for dates and times of safety courses for current members. New members will receive their training during their Orientation Class

COURSE OUTLINE:

~ The Range Safety Committee reserves the right to modify this course at any time ~

RB Four Golden Safety Rules:

  • All rounds must impact the back berms
  • Only approved steel or metallic targets may be used
  • Firearms may not be handled when anyone is downrange
  • Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times

NRA Four Basic Safety Rules of Safe Gun Handling

  • Always point the muzzle in a safe direction
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot
  • Keep the action open and gun unloaded until you are ready to use it
  • Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded

Proper Targets and Placement

  • Approved and appropriate targets and proper target placement at RB ranges will be covered in detail during the Rifle and Pistol certification course.
  • These requirements are also clearly stated in various safety documents and signs posted in all rile & pistol bays, in the clubhouse, on the RBN Web Site and on the road leading to the rifle and pistol range.

Guest policies and conduct

  • Conduct of guests and how to bring them to RB is also contained on the mandatory Rifle and Pistol certification course

Range demonstration (to be completed ON THE RANGE with instructor and participants)

  • Safe handling requirements
  • Muzzle requirements and safe direction
  • 180° Muzzle Direction principle
  • Proper targets and placement
  • Responsibilities as a member of RB gun club
